Two-factor authentication: passkeys and authenticator apps
Quick answer
ScrambleSync supports two forms of two-factor authentication: passkeys (Face ID, Touch ID, or a hardware key) and authenticator apps like Google Authenticator or Authy. Set them up in Settings → Two-factor authentication. Once a passkey is registered, you can sign in with it directly from the login page — no password needed.

Setting up a passkey
A passkey uses your device's biometrics (Face ID, fingerprint, or Windows Hello) or a hardware security key to sign you in without a password. It's the fastest and most secure option.
Go to Settings → Two-factor authentication
Sign in to your organizer account, click Settings in the sidebar, then choose Two-factor authentication.
Click "Register a passkey"
Your browser will prompt you to use Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or a connected security key. Follow the on-screen steps to complete registration.
Give the passkey a name (optional)
You can identify passkeys by device. The name is optional — it's only visible to you in the passkey list.
Sign in with your passkey
The next time you go to scramblesync.com/login, click "Sign in with passkey" at the top of the form. Your device will prompt you to authenticate with biometrics or your security key.
Setting up an authenticator app
An authenticator app generates a 6-digit code that rotates every 30 seconds. Compatible apps include Google Authenticator, Authy, Microsoft Authenticator, and 1Password.
Go to Settings → Two-factor authentication
Click Settings in the sidebar, then Two-factor authentication.
Click "Set up authenticator app"
A QR code will appear. Open your authenticator app and scan it. If you can't scan, tap "Can't scan?" to reveal a manual setup key you can type in.
Enter the 6-digit code
Your app will display a 6-digit code. Enter it in the "Confirm" field and click Activate to finish setup.
Save backup codes
Store your recovery codes somewhere safe. If you lose access to your authenticator app, you'll need them to sign in.
Removing a passkey or authenticator
In Settings → Two-factor authentication, click "Remove" next to any passkey, or "Remove authenticator" under the authenticator app section. You'll need to confirm the action.
Frequently asked questions
Can I have more than one passkey?
Yes. You can register passkeys on multiple devices — for example, your phone and your laptop. Each appears as a separate entry in the passkey list.
What if I lose access to my authenticator app?
If you saved your backup codes during setup, use one of those to sign in. If you don't have backup codes, email [email protected] from your registered email address and we can help verify your identity and restore access.
Is MFA required?
MFA is not required by default. However, your account admin may require it before you can access certain features — in that case, you'll be prompted to set it up when you sign in.
Do golfers and sponsors need MFA?
No. Golfers and sponsors don't have accounts — they access tournaments with a join code or link. MFA only applies to organizer accounts.
