Playing with no signal or poor connection
Quick answer
ScrambleSync saves every score directly to your phone the moment you tap it. If you lose signal, your scores are stored safely and sent automatically as soon as you're back online — you never lose a score to a dropped connection.

What happens when you lose signal
ScrambleSync stores scores on your phone first (using the browser's built-in storage), then sends them to the server in the background. If your connection drops, the scores stay on your phone.
A status message appears at the top of the scorecard: 'X scores are saved on your phone — we'll send them the moment you're back online.' This is normal — keep playing.
Status messages and what they mean
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Saving X scores… | Online, scores are being sent right now | Nothing — wait a moment |
| X scores saved on your phone — we'll send them when you're back online | No signal; scores are stored safely on your phone | Keep playing; they'll sync automatically |
| X scores need another try — tap the hole to resend | A score failed to send even with signal | Tap that hole on the scorecard and re-enter or retry |
| All scores saved | Everything is synced | Nothing |
Keeping your screen on
ScrambleSync requests a Wake Lock to keep your screen lit while you're scoring so the app doesn't go dark mid-hole. This works on most modern Android phones and recent iPhones. If your screen still dims, increase your phone's screen timeout in Settings.
GPS and maps offline
The satellite map needs a data connection to load map tiles. In a dead zone, you may see a blank or partial map — this is fine and doesn't affect scoring. Your GPS position may still show even without full map tiles.
Frequently asked questions
I lost all my scores after closing the browser.
Scores stored on your phone survive closing and reopening the browser as long as you don't clear your browser data. If scores are missing after reopening, they may have already synced — check the leaderboard or ask the organizer.
The sync error won't go away.
Tap the hole that shows the error and try entering the score again. If it keeps failing, check that you have a data or Wi-Fi connection, then try again.
Can I score the whole round offline and sync at the end?
Yes. Enter all your scores as normal. They'll all upload at once when you get signal — even at the end of the round.
