A golfer can't join the tournament

Most join problems come down to one of three things: a typo in the join code, the team not existing yet, or the tournament being in a state that doesn't allow joining. Check each of these in order and the golfer should be up and running quickly.

Step 1: Verify the join code
Join codes are case-insensitive but must match exactly. Common mistakes include:
- Confusing the letter O with the number 0 (zero).
- Confusing the letter I or l with the number 1.
- Extra spaces at the start or end of the code.
- Using an old code from a previous year's event.
The safest way to share a code is to send golfers the direct link: scramblesync.com/j/<code>. Clicking a link avoids any typing errors entirely.
Step 2: Confirm the team has been created
Golfers can only join teams that the organizer has already created. If you haven't set up teams yet, go to your tournament dashboard, open the Teams tab, and add the teams first. Then share the join code (or individual player codes if you're using per-player codes).
Step 3: Check the tournament status
The tournament must be in an active state for golfers to join and score. If the event is still in Draft or has been marked as Archived, golfers won't be able to access the scoring page. Check the tournament status in your organizer dashboard and set it to Live (or let ScrambleSync set it automatically when the first score comes in).
Per-player codes vs. team codes
If you're using per-player codes (individual links sent to each golfer), those are different from the main team join code. Per-player codes appear in the player list on the Teams tab. Share the right code for the right golfer — a team code gives access to the whole team's scoring view.
Frequently asked questions
The golfer says the code is correct but they get "Invalid code" — what now?
Double-check that the team exists in your tournament's Teams tab and that the code displayed there matches what the golfer entered. If the tournament is in Draft status, activate it first.
Can the same golfer join on multiple devices?
Yes. The join code can be used on any device. Each device will track that player's session independently.
A golfer joined but can't see their hole assignments
Make sure holes are configured in your tournament setup (the Holes tab). If holes aren't set up, golfers can still enter scores but won't see a tee sheet or rotation.
