Install ScrambleSync as an app (PWA)
Quick answer
ScrambleSync is a Progressive Web App (PWA). You can add it to your phone's home screen for one-tap access — no App Store or Google Play required. On iPhone use Safari → Share → Add to Home Screen. On Android use Chrome → menu → Install app.

Why install it?
- One-tap access — ScrambleSync appears on your home screen like a native app with its own icon.
- Runs full-screen with no browser address bar, giving golfers more room on a small screen.
- Better resilience on a patchy connection — pages you have visited stay available even when signal drops.
- Scores entered while offline queue automatically and submit as soon as connectivity returns.
- No App Store or Google Play account required — anyone with a phone browser can install it.
Install on iPhone or iPad (iOS — Safari only)
Open Safari
Go to scramblesync.com in Safari. Sign in if you are an organizer, or go to your tournament join link if you are a golfer.
Tap the Share button
Tap the Share icon at the bottom of the Safari toolbar — it looks like a box with an arrow pointing up.
Tap Add to Home Screen
Scroll down in the share sheet and tap 'Add to Home Screen'.
Tap Add
Confirm the name (ScrambleSync) and tap Add in the top-right corner. The icon appears on your home screen immediately.
Install on Android (Chrome)
Open Chrome
Go to scramblesync.com in Chrome on Android.
Open the browser menu
Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of Chrome.
Tap Install app
Tap 'Install app'. On some older Android versions this may say 'Add to Home Screen' instead.
Confirm
Tap Install in the dialog. The ScrambleSync icon is added to your home screen and app drawer.
Offline and poor-signal behavior
ScrambleSync uses a network-first strategy: it always tries to reach the server and falls back to its local cache only when the network is unavailable. In practice:
- Pages you have already visited load from cache when the network is down.
- Score submissions are stored in an offline queue in the browser and sent automatically once connectivity returns. A pending indicator is shown while scores are queued.
- When the network is available, you always see the latest live data — cached copies are never served in preference to fresh data.
- API calls (score submits, leaderboard polls) always go direct to the network; they are never served from cache, so the offline queue can retry them correctly.
- If neither the network nor a cached version is available, a plain offline page is shown.
Frequently asked questions
Do golfers need to install it to enter scores?
No. Scoring works in any mobile browser without installation. Installing just makes it faster to open and adds offline resilience.
Is there a version in the App Store or Google Play?
No. ScrambleSync is a web app. The PWA install (Add to Home Screen) gives an equivalent native-app experience without requiring an app store account.
Will it update automatically after I install it?
Yes. When a new version of ScrambleSync is deployed and you have a connection, the app updates automatically in the background. No manual update is needed.
Can organizers install it on their phone too?
Absolutely. Many organizers install it for quick access to the leaderboard, messaging, check-in, and the assistant during an event.
