Quota, Gross+Net, Nassau and score caps explained
Quick answer
All four are in Settings under Scoring & boards. Quota ranks by points minus a target of 2 x holes minus handicap. Best Ball Gross+Net adds the best gross ball and best net ball on every hole. Nassau adds Front 9, Back 9 and Overall rankings. Maximum score per hole caps a blow-up hole.

Quota (points vs target)
Each team or golfer gets a target: 2 x the number of holes, minus their handicap (rounded to a whole number). They earn points on each hole from your Stableford points table (Standard: birdie 3, par 2, bogey 1). The board ranks by points minus the target. The most over target wins.
- 18 holes, handicap 0: target 36. 9 holes, handicap 5: target 13 (18 minus 5).
- No handicap entered: the target is 2 x the holes, with no strokes off.
- A handicap of 10.6 counts as 11.
- Team events use the team handicap. Individual stroke events use each golfer's own handicap.
Example: the Eagles have handicap 0, so their target is 36. They make birdies on 6 holes and pars on the other 12. That is 6 x 3 + 12 x 2 = 42 points, which is 6 over target (+6). The Hawks have handicap 10, so their target is 26, 10 fewer points to reach.
Best Ball Gross+Net
For Best-ball events only. On each hole the team's best gross ball and its best net ball are added together. The lowest total wins. It uses each golfer's own handicap, and the Balls that count per hole setting.
Example: Ann has handicap 10 and Ben has handicap 0. Ann makes 5 on every hole. Ben makes 4 on every hole except holes 12, 13 and 14, where he makes 6. Ann gets one handicap stroke on the ten hardest holes (difficulty ranks 1 to 10), so her net is 4 there.
| Holes | Best gross ball | Best net ball | Hole total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 11 and 15 to 18 (15 holes) | 4 | 4 | 8 |
| 12, 13 and 14 (3 holes) | 5 (Ann) | 5 (Ann, no stroke there) | 10 |
The round totals 15 x 8 + 3 x 10 = 150. Two balls on 18 par-4 holes is 144, so the team is 6 over on this board.
Nassau (Front 9 / Back 9 / Overall)
Nassau adds three side-by-side rankings of the same field: the front nine, the back nine, and the full round. Front 9 and Back 9 rank on total strokes over their nine holes. Overall matches your main board: Net if the Net board is on, otherwise Gross. Your other boards stay as they are.
Example on the Gross board: Team A shoots 34 on the front and 40 on the back (74). Team B shoots 38 and 35 (73). Team C shoots 36 and 36 (72).
| Ranking | Winner | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Front 9 | Team A | 34 is the lowest front nine |
| Back 9 | Team B | 35 is the lowest back nine |
| Overall | Team C | 72 is the lowest round |
On a 9-hole event the Front is holes 1 to 5 and the Back is holes 6 to 9.
Maximum score per hole
A cap stops one bad hole wrecking a round. It only lowers a score that is over the cap. It never raises a score or fills in a blank hole. Your leaderboards count the capped number for Gross, Net and points boards.
| Option | What it does | Par 4, golfer writes 9 |
|---|---|---|
| None | No cap. Every stroke counts. | 9 |
| Fixed strokes | Caps every hole at the number you type in Fixed cap (strokes). Here the cap is 8. | 8 |
| Double bogey max | Two over par, the same for everyone. Needs par on every hole. | 6 |
| Net double bogey | Double bogey plus any handicap strokes that golfer gets on that hole. Needs par and stroke index on every hole. | 7 where they get a stroke, 6 where they don't |
Tips
- Fill in the Difficulty rank column for every hole on the Holes tab. Without it, Quota points are worked out on gross scores, and Net double bogey asks for it.
- Settle your caps before play starts. Changing them later changes how scores already entered are counted.
- Quota, Gross+Net and Nassau are shown next to your other boards. Tick several to show them side by side.
Troubleshooting
| If you see this | Try this |
|---|---|
| The Best Ball Gross+Net board is empty | It only fills for Best-ball events. Check Format under Scoring & boards. |
| Everyone's Quota target is 36 on an 18-hole event | No handicaps are set. Add them on the Teams tab (or the Players tab for per-golfer events). |
| Nothing changed after I picked a cap | Click Save scoring. For Double bogey max and Net double bogey, set par (and difficulty rank) on every hole first. |
| Front 9 and Back 9 boards are missing | Tick Nassau (Front 9 / Back 9 / Overall) and click Save scoring. |
Frequently asked questions
What is Quota?
A target of 2 x holes minus handicap. You earn Stableford points hole by hole, and the board ranks by points over target.
Does Nassau track the three bets?

Does a cap change the score the golfer entered?
