Net and gross results, ties and countback
Quick answer
Turn on the Gross and Net boards on the Settings tab. When two finished cards have the same score, we break the tie by countback: the better back 9 (holes 10 to 18 on the card), then back 6, then back 3, then the last hole. If they're still level, both show a T place and a Tie badge. With One prize per team on, a team that wins a gross place moves to the bottom of the Net board marked Won gross.

How ties are broken
When two finished cards have the same score, the team with the lower score over holes 10 to 18 wins. If that's level too, we compare holes 13 to 18, then holes 16 to 18, then hole 18. These are hole numbers on the card, not the last holes a team happened to play. On a 9-hole event, we compare the last 4 holes, then the last 3, then the last 2, then the last hole. The Net board does the same with net scores, spreading the team handicap across holes by handicap number. If your holes have no handicap numbers, net countback uses the gross scores.
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Two teams with the same score but different places (3, 4) | Countback broke the tie. |
| T5 with a Tie badge on both rows | Still level after the last hole. You decide how to break it, for example with a playoff or a card draw. |
| Not finished badge | The team hasn't finished. Countback is only used between finished cards. |
Read the board
- Gross and Net switch the board on the Scoreboard tab.
- Teams 3A and 4A both shot 63. 3A had the better back 9, so it's 3rd and 4A is 4th.
- 5A and 5B are level on every countback, so both show T5 and a Tie badge.
- 6A is still playing and shows Not finished.
One prize per team on the Net board
With One prize per team on, the gross winners move to the bottom of the Net board with a dash for their place and a Won gross badge. Everyone else moves up for net prizes.
What golfers see
The golfer Leaderboard tab has the same Gross and Net switch, places, Tie badges and Not finished badges.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change how ties are broken?
No. No. Countback always uses the back 9, 6, 3 and last hole, in that order. For a true tie, we show T and leave the decision to you.
Why isn't countback used for a team that entered a total by hand?
A hand-entered total has no hole by hole scores, so there's nothing to count back. It shows level with the matching cards, and you decide the tie.
On a shotgun start, which holes count as the last 9?
Holes 10 to 18 as numbered on the card, no matter which hole the team started on. So a team that started on hole 10 is not compared on its second nine, it is still compared on holes 10 to 18.
