Set tournament rules golfers agree to
Quick answer
Open your event, go to Settings, and type your rules in the Tournament rules box, then click Save rules. On event day, the golfer who keeps score sees those rules, ticks 'I have read and understand the tournament rules', and taps Continue to scorecard before entering scores.

Overview
Things like 'No mulligans' or 'Gimmies within 1 foot' are easy to forget by the first tee. Put them in Settings and ScrambleSync shows them on the golfer's phone as a must-read step. It's one box of plain text for the whole event.
Who this is for
Admins and Managers. Check-in staff can't save settings.
Write your rules
Open Settings
Open your event and click Settings in the sidebar.
Find the Tournament rules box
Scroll to the Tournament rules card. It says 'Shown to players after they select a score keeper. They must agree before entering scores.'
Type your rules
Use plain text. For example: 'No mulligans. Gimmies within 1 foot. Lost ball = stroke and distance penalty.' Line breaks you type are kept on the golfer's screen.
Click Save rules
You'll see a quick '✓ Saved' message. To remove the rules, clear the box and save. With no rules, golfers skip this step.
What golfers see
After a team picks its score keeper, that phone shows a screen titled 'Tournament rules' that says 'Please read and acknowledge the rules before you begin.' Your text is in a scrolling box. The Continue to scorecard button stays grayed out until the golfer ticks 'I have read and understand the tournament rules'. Golfers who play with their own personal code see the same screen when they open their card.
Tips
- Save your rules before golfers open their cards. A phone that has already agreed isn't asked again if you edit the rules later.
- Keep it short. The text scrolls in a box, so long rules get skimmed.
- The agreement is saved on the golfer's phone. ScrambleSync doesn't show a list of who agreed, so read the rules out at the shotgun start too.
- Duplicating an event copies its rules to the new event.
Troubleshooting
| If you see this | Try this |
|---|---|
| Golfers say they never saw the rules | Check that the rules were saved and aren't blank. Only the score keeper's phone sees them, and a phone that already agreed isn't asked again. |
| 'Insufficient permissions' | Only Admins and Managers can save settings. Ask one of them to save the rules. |
| 'Couldn't save the rules — please try again.' | Check your connection and click Save rules again. |
| 'Couldn't load settings — refresh to try again.' | Refresh the page. The rules box won't show until Settings loads. |
Frequently asked questions
Can golfers skip the rules?
The Continue to scorecard button is disabled until they tick the box, so the score keeper can't skip it.
Can I use bold, links or a longer document?
No. It's one plain-text box. Line breaks are kept, but there's no formatting.
Can I see who agreed?
No. The agreement is saved on each golfer's phone, not in your dashboard.
Is this part of my plan?
Rules are available on every plan. Nothing needs to be turned on.
