Tournament status and lifecycle
Quick answer
ScrambleSync automatically transitions your tournament through Draft → Live (the instant the first score or check-in comes in) → Final (after 60 minutes idle) → Archived (7 days after going Final). You can override the status manually at any time from the tournament overview — your manual choice always wins over the automatic logic.

The five statuses
| Status | What it means | How you get here |
|---|---|---|
| Draft | Event is being set up. Leaderboard is not public. | Default when you create a tournament. |
| Open | Registration is open. Golfers can join with a code. Scoring has not started. | Set manually, or when registration is enabled. |
| Live | Scoring is active. Live scoreboard is public and updates in real time. | Automatically when the first score or check-in is submitted. Can also be set manually. |
| Final | Scoring is complete. Results are locked and viewable. | Automatically after 60 minutes with no score or check-in activity. Can also be set manually. |
| Archived | Event is done. Still fully viewable but no longer highlighted in your dashboard. | Automatically 7 days after going Final. Can also be set manually. |
How automatic transitions work
A background job runs approximately every 15 minutes to advance tournaments that are on automatic status. The rules are:
- → Live: The moment the first score is submitted or a player is checked in, the tournament moves to Live immediately and atomically — no waiting for the background job.
- Live → Final: If no score or check-in activity has occurred for 60 consecutive minutes, the tournament advances to Final on the next background pass.
- Final → Archived: If the tournament has been Final for 7 days without any activity, it moves to Archived on the next background pass.

Frequently asked questions
My event ended but it's still showing as Live. What do I do?
Either wait for the automatic 60-minute idle timer to flip it to Final, or set it to Final manually right now using the status selector. Manual always takes effect immediately.
Can I move a tournament back from Final to Live?
Yes. Use the status selector to set it back to Live. Scoring reopens and the leaderboard goes live again.
Does Archived mean the data is deleted?
No. Archived tournaments are fully accessible from your dashboard. All results, scorecards, and data are preserved. Archived just means the event is no longer shown prominently in your active events list.
What counts as 'activity' for the idle timer?
A score submission or a player check-in. Viewing the leaderboard, changing settings, or other organizer actions do not count.
