Change players and teams mid-event
Quick answer
Open the Players tab and change the Team column for that player, or use Edit player in the iPhone app. You can do this any time, even after scores are in. A player who has scores can't be deleted, but you can move them to another team or to Unassigned. Generate teams and Clear all teams stop working once any score is entered.

Overview
Plans change on event day: someone drops out, a late golfer arrives, two friends want to swap teams. Here's what you can still change after scoring starts, and what ScrambleSync won't let you do.
Who this is for
Organizers and staff who have permission to edit the event.
Move a player to another team
Open the Players tab
Open your event and click Players.
Change the Team
Find the player and pick a new team in the Team column. Choose Unassigned to take them off every team.
Or use the iPhone app
Tap the pencil next to the player (it opens Edit player), pick a team (or Unassigned) and tap Save.
The same grid also lets you change a player's cart, handicap, check-in and contact details at any time.
What happens to scores when a player moves
- In a scramble, the team's ball belongs to the team. The scores stay with the team, and the player who moved is simply no longer on it.
- In formats where each golfer plays their own ball (best ball and individual), a player's scores follow the player. Their scores count for the new team.
- Moving someone doesn't erase any scores. Check the leaderboard afterward, because a team's total can change.
If you can't delete a player
A player who has scores entered can't be deleted, because that would erase their scores. You'll see this message:
Change a handicap on a signed card
Handicaps decide net results and prizes, so ScrambleSync doesn't let you change one quietly after a team has signed their card. When you try, you'll see a message like "Team name's card is signed. Reopen it or confirm to change the handicap." followed by the question "Change the handicap anyway?"
- Click OK to go ahead. The change is saved and flagged on the Score check tab, with a note in the audit log.
- Cancel to leave the handicap alone.
- To change scores on that card, reopen it first. See Signing your card.
What's blocked once scores exist
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| Generate teams or Clear all teams | Blocked. You'll see "Scores have already been entered — teams can't be regenerated or cleared. Remove teams one at a time if needed." |
| Deleting a player who has scores | Blocked. Move them to another team or to Unassigned instead. |
| Moving a team to another hole | Allowed. Use Live controls. |
| Moving a player to another team | Allowed any time. |
Tips
- Check the leaderboard right after a move so you can tell the teams what changed.
- To move a whole team to another starting hole, use Live controls instead.
Troubleshooting
| If you see this | Try this |
|---|---|
| "This player has scores entered…" when deleting | Move the player to another team or to Unassigned, or email [email protected] to remove them completely. |
| "card is signed" when changing a handicap | Confirm the change, or reopen the card first. |
| Generate teams does nothing after play started | It is blocked once any score exists. Edit teams one at a time instead. |
Frequently asked questions
Can I move a player after they've entered scores?
Yes. Change their team on the Players tab or in Edit player in the iPhone app. In a scramble the team's scores stay with the team. When each golfer plays their own ball, their scores follow them.
Can I delete a player who has scores?
No. Move them to another team or to Unassigned. To remove them completely, email [email protected].
Why can't I regenerate teams?
Once any score is entered, Generate teams and Clear all teams are blocked so scores aren't lost.
