Refund a registration
Quick answer
Open the Registration tab, find the paid registration in the list, and click Refund. Confirm the message and the full amount goes back to the golfer's card. The registration is cancelled, their team comes off the event if it hasn't played, and the golfer gets an email. Unpaid entries use Cancel instead.

Overview
When a golfer can't play, you can refund their online registration yourself with one click. The money goes back through Stripe to the card they paid with.
Who this is for
Organizers and managers who take registration payments online. Check-in staff don't see the Registration tab.
Refund a paid registration
Open the Registration tab
In your event, click Registration in the sidebar and scroll to the list of registrations.
Find the registration
Each row shows the registrant, the amount, and a status. Only rows marked paid have a Refund button.
Click Refund
A confirmation asks, for example, Refund $200.00 to [email protected]? This cancels the registration and removes their team if it hasn't played. Confirm to go ahead.
Check the status
The row changes to cancelled. If it still says paid, the refund didn't go through and nothing was changed. Click Refund again.
What happens when you refund
- The full amount is refunded. There is no way to refund part of a payment here.
- The registration is cancelled.
- The team is removed from your event only if it hasn't played. If the team already has scores, it stays on the event.
- The golfer gets an email titled Refund issued with the event name. It says the refund should show up within 5 to 10 business days.
- The 1% ScrambleSync fee on that payment is returned too, so you don't pay a fee on money you gave back.
Unpaid and sold-out entries
- A registration that was started but not paid shows as pending and has a Cancel button instead of Refund. Nothing has been charged, so there is nothing to refund.
- If a golfer is paying at the moment you cancel a pending registration, or the last spot sells out while they pay, they are refunded in full automatically and get an email. You don't need to do anything.
Donations and other payments
The Refund button is only for registrations. Donations have no refund button in ScrambleSync. To return a donation or any other card payment, refund it from your Stripe dashboard.
Tips
- Refunding is final. The confirmation message is your last check, so make sure it's the right golfer and amount.
- A registration that includes add-ons is refunded as one payment. You can't keep the add-ons and refund only the entry.
- Refunds go to the original card. You can't send the money somewhere else from here.
Troubleshooting
| If you see this | Try this |
|---|---|
| There's no Refund button on a row | Refund only appears on paid registrations. Pending rows have Cancel, and cancelled rows are already done. |
| The row still says paid after I clicked Refund | The refund didn't go through and the registration was left as it was. Try again. If it keeps failing, refund the payment from your Stripe dashboard. |
| The team is still on my event after a refund | That's expected when the team already has scores: a team that has played is kept on the event. |
| I can't find the Registration tab | It's hidden for check-in staff, and for events where it has been turned off. |
Frequently asked questions
Can I refund only part of a registration?
No. The Refund button always returns the full amount the golfer paid. For a partial refund, use your Stripe dashboard.
Does the golfer find out?
Yes. They get an email titled Refund issued that says their registration was cancelled and the money is on its way back to their card.
Do I lose the ScrambleSync fee when I refund?
No. The 1% fee on that payment is returned along with the refund.
How do I cancel an entry that was never paid?
Click Cancel on the pending row. Nothing was charged, so nothing is refunded.
Can I refund a donation from ScrambleSync?
Not from ScrambleSync. Refund it from your Stripe dashboard.
